Hermès Scarf 90 cm – L'Intrus – Antoine de Jacquelot (1996)

Issued one single time in 1996 (never reissued), the "L'Intrus" scarf (The Intruder) is a major work by Antoine de Jacquelot, the House's ornithologist artist par excellence.

The scene captures a dramatic moment: in the centre, a falcon (the intruder, or rather the aggressor) swoops down on its prey, causing spectacular panic among a flock of songbirds. The movement of the wings and the precision of the plumage are striking. On this very soft Sand Beige ground, the blues, greens and golds of the birds burst with realism. A refined feature of this edition: the hand-rolled hem is in a contrasting colour to the border of the scarf, a subtle detail adored by connoisseurs.

A word from Diane
This scarf is fascinating because it is both beautiful and instructive. All around the central frenzy, Jacquelot has calligraphed the names of the species: mésange (tit), rouge-gorge (robin), chardonneret (goldfinch)... It is a true encyclopaedic plate in motion. I particularly love this neutral beige ground, which makes the scarf very easy to wear every day while letting the jewel colours of the birds take centre stage (the blue of the wings is magnificent).
